Position Description:

Summary of Duties:

The Extension Coordinator Senior is responsible for assisting in developing and conducting culturally relevant statewide training in direct education; policy, and environment change; and other topics pertaining to the Washington State SNAP-Ed (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education) Curriculum, Training, and Website project. The Senior Coordinator is also responsible for developing copy and resources posted on WA SNAP-Ed websites for the WA SNAP-Ed program and ensures that all materials posted represent the diverse communities SNAP-Ed works in. This position also participates in assessing curriculum for use in the SNAP-Ed program as well as conducting site visits for lesson delivery. The position assists in developing the statewide Curriculum, Training, and Website program in conjunction with the Extension Coordinator Specialists, and Assistant Director.

This position exercises judgement in coordinating, developing, evaluating, and conducting extension programs. This position requires independent judgment, strict confidentiality in all business matters, and must professionally and effectively communicate verbally and in writing. This is a temporary position expected to end on 9/30/2024. Renewal is dependent on satisfactory performance and annual background check, the need for Extension to complete the project and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant extension program discipline and three (3) years of related program experience. A Masters degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Demonstrated teaching experience and evaluating community projects and experience in preparing educational materials for low literacy and diverse populations.

Ability to travel regionally, statewide, and occasionally out of state.

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within targeted counties.

While using a private or WSU-owned vehicle for official business, must have current automobile liability insurance (meeting the requirements described in RCW 46.30.020 and RCW 46.29.090).

Ability to work a flexible, yet structured schedule with occasional night and weekend shifts to meet the needs of program partners and grant requirements.

Employment is contingent upon passing an annual background screening

Desired Qualifications:

Bilingual (English and Spanish)

Lived experience, or experience working with diverse communities using a strengths-based approach, showing sensitivity to those who experience poverty, racism, marginalization, and trauma.

Experience adapting education practices to the needs of diverse populations.

Experience developing programs for individuals who have experienced trauma.

Master’s Degree in Public Health, Nutrition, Education or other relevant field.

RDN (Registered Dietitian Nutritionist) or CHES (Certified Health Education Specialist) certification.

Experience teaching youth and/or adults.

Demonstrated conflict resolution, organizational and management skills.

Experience in Extension or other related adult or youth development programs.
