Position Description:

UW Medical Center - Monalake - Food and Nutrition has an outstanding opportunity for a REGISTERED DIETITIAN.

WORK SCHEDULE
50% FTE, Days

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
Provide individualized medical nutrition therapy for patients in the Neonatal ICU and step down unit for premature infants.
Interact with families to provide appropriate nutrition education and review goals of nutrition therapy.
Serve as a resource to interdisciplinary health care team and community, collaborating as a team member in decision-making care processes and sharing nutritional expertise.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide effective nutrition education to patient family members.
Communicate nutritional needs and goals of nutrition therapy to healthcare team and patient families.
Develop quality medical nutritional therapy plans and goals.
Oversee data collection used to monitor the effectiveness of nutrition therapy.
Document nutritional assessments and care plans in the medical record according to the department standards.
Effectively communicate nutrition concerns and considerations to healthcare team.
Actively participate in patient care conferences; medical rounds; and other team-oriented committees such as the Interdisciplinary Feeding Group.
Maintain current understanding of clinical practices, nutritional therapies, and treatment protocols appropriate for NICU population.
This position will require the advanced understanding of the specific nutrition needs for Neonatal ICU patients; expertise working with alternate modes of feeding, including parenteral and enteral support; and the opportunity to specialize in a specific area of nutrition care.
The employee in this position will be expected to provide supervision over a diet technician and be involved in educating department staff and medical team members.
The employee will also be expected to collaborate in the development of policies and guidelines--both for the Nutrition department and the NICU; participate in ongoing research and QI projects; and mentor dietetic interns.

REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor’s degree involving major study in food and nutrition or dietetics
AND Registration as a Dietitian by the American Dietetic Association OR Eligible for registration at the time of hire and pass the registration examination within one year of date of hire.
